4TC CrossFit Competition Capturing Two Days of Strength and Community

4TC CrossFit Competition – Capturing Two Days of Strength and Community

At GD Media, we specialise in creating visual stories that capture energy, emotion, and authenticity. Recently, we partnered with 4TC CrossFit Tiverton for a two-day CrossFit competition, providing professional photography coverage across the entire event.

Our goal was simple: showcase the intensity of the workouts, the determination of the athletes, and the strong sense of community that defines CrossFit.

This case study breaks down how we approached the project and offers useful takeaways for fitness brands, gyms, and event organisers looking for photographers and videographers in Somerset and the South West, UK.

  1. Step 1: Pre-Event Planning

For this event, we worked closely with the 4TC CrossFit team to plan the coverage around the competition schedule. CrossFit events are fast-paced, with multiple workouts, teams, and categories happening simultaneously – so having a clear plan was essential.

We use a simple PACE Framework to prepare for events like this:

    • Plan: Understand the event schedule, layout, and lighting conditions.
    • Assess: Identify key visual moments – athlete intensity, teamwork, celebrations.
    • Communicate: Coordinate with organisers and judges to ensure smooth coverage.
    • Execute: Capture consistently without disrupting the flow of the competition.

Always brief your photo and video team before the event. Clear communication means smoother coverage and better results.

  2. Step 2: Capturing the Action

Over the two days, our focus was to tell the story of the competition as it unfolded. CrossFit photography is about timing – catching the split second when an athlete hits a lift, crosses the finish line, or celebrates with their teammates.

    • Action shots – showcasing athletic power and precision.
    • Candid moments – friends cheering, athletes supporting one another.
    • Atmosphere – wide shots of the gym, equipment, and energy of the crowd.

Lighting varied throughout the day, so we adapted using a combination of natural light and portable flash to keep images crisp and dynamic. Our goal was to make viewers feel the intensity and passion of the event.

Choose photographers and videographers experienced in movement and sport. Timing and adaptability are key to capturing fast-paced action beautifully.

  3. Step 3: Post-Production and Delivery

After the event, we sorted, edited, and colour-graded hundreds of images to ensure consistency and vibrancy. The final gallery told the complete story—from the early morning warm-ups to the final podium celebrations.

We also provided highlight reels designed for social media – perfect for 4TC CrossFit to share on Instagram, Facebook, and their website to promote future events.

Use your event photography to fuel your marketing. Strong visuals help attract new members, sponsors, and competitors.

  4. Why It Matters

This project wasn’t just about capturing athletes—it was about showcasing a community that thrives on teamwork, discipline, and positivity. The photos and videos produced for 4TC CrossFit Tiverton now serve as lasting content to celebrate their members and promote future competitions.

For GD Media, it reinforced the importance of preparation, precision, and storytelling in every project.

If you’re organising a fitness competition, CrossFit event, or sports challenge in Somerset or the South West UK, and need professional photographers, videographers, or content creators, we’d love to help you capture the energy, the moments, and the memories.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
