Capturing Culinary Creativity – GD Media x Harrison Miller

When professional chef Harrison Miller approached us, his goal was simple: to create a series of striking food images that reflected both his culinary skill and artistic vision. As a Sous Chef at Blundells School Catering and a Roux Scholarship Regional Finalist, Harrison wanted imagery that told the story of his craft and his creativity.

As a Somerset-based photography and content creation company, we specialise in producing high-quality visual assets that elevate brands and professionals across the South West and further. This collaboration was all about transforming fine food into fine art.

  1. The Objective

Harrison wanted professional, high-quality photographs of his new dishes, including his Roux Scholarship submission dish. The goal was twofold:

    • Portfolio Development – To showcase his skills to the Roux Scholarship judges and future employers.
    • Personal Branding – To build a library of professional images for digital platforms, including social media and press features.
  2. Our Approach

We started by consulting with Harrison to understand his creative process and the intent behind each dish. That understanding helped us plan the shoot compositionally, with lighting, angles, and colour tones designed to highlight key textures and ingredients.

To bring the food to life, we used a mix of natural and controlled lighting, balancing warmth with contrast to capture the vibrancy and refinement of fine dining plating. We shot directly on-site in Blundells’ professional kitchen, allowing us to capture dishes as soon as they were complete.

We focused on detail: the glisten of a reduction, the texture of a garnish, the steam rising from a just-finished dish.

  3. Execution

    • A Roux Scholarship feature dish photographed from multiple perspectives for competition entry.
    • Signature dishes presented for promotional use.
    • Behind-the-scenes shots of Harrison in action to humanise his brand and show his process.

Post-production focused on subtle retouching to preserve the authenticity of the dishes while enhancing colour accuracy and contrast.

  4. The Outcome

The final collection delivered exactly what Harrison was looking for — a professional, polished set of images that showcased his talent and passion. These assets are now being used for:

    • Competition submissions and judge portfolios.
    • Press features and interviews.
    • Social media content promoting Harrison’s professional journey.

The photos reinforce his professional credibility within the culinary industry.

  5. Key Takeaway

    • Professional photography matters – Especially in food, where visual appeal drives emotion and engagement.
    • Lighting and texture are key to creating depth and appetite appeal in imagery.
    • Authenticity beats perfection – capturing a chef’s process often tells a stronger story than just a plated dish.

At GD Media, we believe food photography should do more than look good — it should make people feel something. Whether you’re a chef, restaurant, or food brand, our goal is to help you tell your story through imagery that inspires.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
