Test Fest 2025

Test Fest 2025

At GD Media, we were commissioned by the charity It’s In The Bag to video document their annual music festival, Test Fest. The aim was to create a short round-up film that captured the spirit of the day – the live music, the energy of the crowd, and the commitment of the volunteers who make it happen.

This case study outlines how we approached the project, the methods we used, and the key outcomes.

  1. Understanding the Brief

Before we picked up a camera, we worked closely with the organisers to define:

    • Core objectives: Showcase the event, highlight the bands, capture crowd engagement, and feature volunteer voices.
    • Audience: Supporters of the charity, potential donors, and future festival-goers.
    • Outputs: A dynamic round-up video suitable for web and social media use.

Takeaway: Defining goals at the start ensures the content is aligned with the client’s needs.

  2. Filming on the Ground

We used a three-part framework for coverage:

    • Performance – Multiple cameras were used to film the bands both on stage and backstage. This gave us professional, dynamic angles to showcase the performers.
    • Atmosphere – We filmed the crowds enjoying themselves, using close-ups for personal moments and wide shots for scale.
    • Voices – Short, direct-to-camera interviews with volunteers added authenticity and a human connection.

Takeaway: Breaking the filming into categories ensures nothing important is missed.

  3. Adding Scale with Drone Footage

Aerial filming was used to provide context – sweeping shots of the site, the stage, and the crowds enjoying the sunshine. Drone footage elevated the production value and gave the film a cinematic feel.

Takeaway: Even one or two aerial shots can transform the overall impact of an event video.

  4. Editing and Storytelling

The editing process focused on weaving the three strands together:

    • Music – Performance clips set the pace and energy.
    • Crowd – Audience reactions brought warmth and relatability.
    • Volunteers – Their voices provided the “why” behind the festival.

The final product was not just a record of the event but a promotional tool that It’s In The Bag can use year-round.

Takeaway: Editing should aim to tell a story, not just compile footage.

  5. The Results

    • A vibrant highlight film showcasing the best of Test Fest.
    • Content that can be reused on multiple platforms (website, Facebook, Instagram).
    • A video that works as both a promotional tool and a piece of storytelling for the charity.
  6. Conclusion

Producing the Test Fest video was a practical demonstration of how event videography can do more than record – it can inspire. By combining clear objectives, structured filming, aerial perspective, and story-driven editing, we delivered a video that reflects both the atmosphere of the festival and the values of the charity behind it.

For any organisation planning an event, the key is to think of the video not just as a record but as an asset: a tool to engage your audience, build your brand, and extend the life of your event long after the day itself.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
